UnityJam is a concert to benefit two non-profit organizations: the Salman & Samina Global Wellness Initiative is working to help Pakistan’s 3 million impoverished IDP’s (internally-displaced person’s), while Abraham’s Vision is educating Muslim, Jewish, Palestinian, and Israeli communities towards inter- and intra-communal conflict transformation.
UNITYJAM CO-ORGANIZERS:

Salman & Samina Global Wellness Initiative is dedicated to the increased understanding, cooperation, and mutual enrichment of the world’s cultures. Through music, media, and advocacy SSGWI is working to raise awareness on the plight of the Pakistani refugees. The Pakistani military is waging a battle against the Taliban and Al-Qaeda in the Northern valley of Swat but the fierce fighting has drained an already impoverished citizenry. Some three million innocent people have fled their homes for safety, while many who remain in the valley suffer from lack of food, water or electricity. Within this fluid human drama, SSGWI calls on the international community to show solidarity with the people of Pakistan.

Abraham’s Vision is a conflict transformation organization that explores group and individual identities through experiential and political education. Examining social relations between and within the Jewish, Muslim, Israeli, and Palestinian communities, AV empowers participants to practice just alternatives to the staus quo. AV's programs are making a consistent and long-term impact on these communities, in both the United States and beyond, creating new models for inter-communal interaction.

SALMAN AHMAD
Born in Lahore, Pakistan Salman Ahmad is one of South Asia’s most influential musicians. His stylistic blend of Western rock-music and Eastern/Islamic music popularized by his band Junoon, has come to be known as “Sufi rock.” Like the work Ahmad does with SSGWI, his music represents a focus on interfaith and cross-cultural dialogue.

YALE STROM
The inspiration of Yale Strom’s music comes from his extensive research among Jewish and Roma communities in the Balkans. As a violinist and composer, Strom is known as a pioneer of the revival of klezmer music. He is also one of the only composers to carry on the tradition of writing songs in Yiddish about humanitarian and social issues.
ELIZABETH SCHWARTZ
Elizabeth Schwartz is known as a soulful and passionate vocalist who has collaborated with artists of multiple influences (including both Yale Strom and Salman Ahmad). As a singer of klezmer music, she has performed all over North America and Europe in venues ranging from jazz clubs to synagogues to concert halls.
